Chorus
The Choral Music program at Southeast Raleigh High School is diverse and inclusive of many styles of music. Incoming freshman sign-up for Women's or Men's Chorus and Upperclassmen may take Mixed Chorus. For the advanced singers in grades 10-12, students may audition in April for Southeast "Select" Choir or for 18 Karat vocal ensemble. The Southeast choirs are in great demand for their energetic performances throughout the community and state. They have performed for Pieces of Gold, the NC Diversity Conference in Greensboro, Governor Easley's Inauguration, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet sponsored by NCAE, just to name a few. In 2003, the "Select" chorus received straight Superior ratings at District Choir Contest at Meredith College. Because of these ratings, Select Chorus was invited to sing at Carnegie Hall in March 2004. The choir was directed by world renowned conductor, Paul Salamunovich who hails from Hollywood, CA. Southeast choral music students also have opportunities to audition for NC Honors Choir, NC State Choir, All County Choir, Regional Solo and Ensemble contest. Additional opportunities in the program that are offered as extra-curricular are Men's and Women's Barbershop and After School Chorus Club. Students in leadership are on choir council and help plan many events including charity events, social events and the annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser.
Additionally, band and chorus students take an annual trip. Past trips have been to New York, Toronto, New Orleans, Orlando, the Bahamas, Charleston, London and Paris. All students enrolled in the band or chorus program are eligible to participate in trip activities.
