Concert/Marching Band operates year round in the split block. Students attend band class for 90 minutes every other day on the AB Day Schedule. Examples of the alternating classes are: ELP, PE, Foreign Language, Math, and Technology Classes. In the fall, this class functions as the Marching Band. They also perform at home and away Varsity football games, area band competitions and area parades.
Rehearsals are on Tuesday and Thursdays of each week from 3:00-6:00 PM at the beginning of the season. As the season progresses, the practices are 3:00-4:30 PM. Performances are scheduled during Fall Break, with consideration given to allow the students portions of the week for personal activities.
A requirement of the course is that students attend the Marching Band Skills Camp. The camp will be held on the campus of Southeast Raleigh High School. In the late fall and spring, this class functions as the Concert Band. Performances are provided at the annual Winter Arts Festival, Concert Festival and additional spring events.
The Colorguard is by audition and tryout. Band managers are selected through interviews and attendance at Band Camp.
Symphonic/Marching Band requires an audition in order to become a member. It meets on the B days of the A/B class schedule. This is the premier ensemble of our band program involving the highest caliber of musicianship. This ensemble performs at District Band, Concert Competitions as well as area and state held events. All members of this organization also participate in the Marching Band Program.
Jazz Band operates as a semester class in the fall. Students volunteer and make it an extracurricular class in the spring. Membership is by audition and interview, with previous musical performance skills as a necessity. This course meets 5 days a week and performs at area, state and regional functions.
Digital Music I is a semester course taught in the spring semester. Some previous musical experience is required. It involves electric keyboards, midi, Lap Top and PC Computer programs. It teaches keyboarding skills, music theory and music composition. The programs used are Finale and Encore.
Digital Music II is a semester course based on the prerequisite of successfully completing the Digital II Music Curriculum.
