Students may now check out laptops on a limited basis. Eligible students are those who are responsible, have no outstanding debt to the school, have no current AUP violations, and have regular attendance. The computers will have the Microsoft Office 2000 suite of products installed (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access). Students will not have Internet access from these computers.

Insurance Requirement:
Any student checking out a laptop must purchase a non-refundable $25 insurance policy covering theft or vandalism. The policy carries a $100 deductible. If the laptop is stolen or vandalized, the insurance will cover all but a $100 deductible, providing that a police report is filed on the incident.

Purchasing Insurance:
The insurance policy will cover all checkout for this school year. The policy may be purchased in the Media Center. The parent must sign a document agreeing to be responsible for: the $100 deductible for covered incidents any loss/damage to the laptop while in the student's possession that is not covered by insurance. (Current replacement value of the laptop model is $1600.)

Reservations:
A student may reserve a laptop up to a week in advance by signing up in the Media Center.

Check-out time:
Laptops may be checked out at any time based on availability. The checkout period is typically overnight.

Check-in time:
Laptops must be returned to the media center prior to 8:00 a.m. on the due date. If the student is absent, the parent must notify the Media Center (856-2841) by 8:00 a.m. to make arrangements for returning the laptop. If the laptop is not returned within 48 hours of the due date, then it will be reported to the police as a class H felony.

Late fees:
A late fee of $1.00 per hour overdue will be charged. Late fees will also apply to accessories not returned with the laptop.

Returns after 4:00 will be considered a day overdue, and late fees will accrue at the rate of $15.00 per day. Before a student is allowed to check out a laptop, they must first fill out a liability release form, and return it to the media center.
