School Nominated Scholarships
The scholarships listed below are ones that require the school to submit a nomination. Students may self-nominate
to be considered for any of these scholarships by submitting a resume to Mr. Pettiford, the Dean of Counseling and
Student Services.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of school nominated scholarships. Additional scholarships that require a school
nomination may be referred to the Dean of Counseling and Student Services.
Centennial Scholarship/ (North Carolina State University)
Purpose:
Introduced by the North Carolina Textile Foundation in 1999 as a part of the College of Textiles' Centennial
Celebration, Centennial Scholarships carry the greatest value among all scholarships at the College of Textiles.
Furthermore, the Centennial Scholarship is among the highest valued scholarships offered at North Carolina State
University. Approximately ten $47,500 Centennial Scholarships will be awarded to the top applicants, and selection
will be based upon demonstrated high academic achievement throughout high school with proven and potential
leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and unique life experiences. Students must be nominated by
his/her high school or home school for this award, or self-nominate between October 1 and the end of November.
This scholarship covers approximately 90% of expenses to attend NC State, and on-campus housing (or a stipend
for an equal amount) and a meal plan (or predetermined allowance), with any remaining funds to be used as a
stipend for books and travel expenses (for up to eight semesters). In addition, each Centennial Scholar will
have access to a $7,500 enrichment fund that will allow him/her to participate in a variety of leadership,
language immersion and international studies programs, attend international textile shows and benefit from
other approved textile enrichment opportunities. Centennial Scholars will also join other student scholars
in a unique honors class offered during the freshman year. (Reference: NCSU Website, September 6, 2005)

DAR Good Citizen Award
Purpose:
Recognize Seniors who have been outstanding students and have great character in the face of challenges.

Morehead Scholarship (UNC Chapel Hill)
Purpose:
The Foundation seeks top high school students who are dynamic young leaders in their schools and communities.
Successful candidates will rank near the top of their class academically, and their classroom performance will
be complemented by contributions and achievements in non-academic areas.
The following four criteria are used to evaluate nominees:
- Capacities to lead and motivate fellow students
- Scholastic ability and extracurricular attainments
- Moral force of character
- Physical vigor as shown by participation in sports or in other ways.

Park Scholarship (North Carolina State University)
Purpose:
Park Scholarships is an innovative, year-round program offering one of the most prestigious undergraduate
scholarships in the United States. Forty-five Park Scholarships will be awarded this year; 35 for North Carolina
residents and 10 for out-of-state students.
- Horizon-expanding trips and community-building retreats to places like Washington, D.C., and Yellowstone National Park.
- A leadership development seminar.
- Resources for creating effective community service projects.
- Faculty mentors to guide academic and career development.
- Special grants for research, artistic and service projects.
- Access to once-in-a-lifetime summer experiences through faculty mentoring.
- Four-year award (valued at $57,000 in-state, $106,000 out-of-state) with a computer stipend for top-of-the-line technology specific to each major.

Application:
Each fall, the Park Scholarships office invites secondary schools in North Carolina and a select few in other
states to endorse candidates for the Park Scholarship. Interested students are encouraged to speak with their
guidance counselors in the early fall of their senior year about their desire to be endorsed as a Park
Scholarship candidate.
Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School Seniors should submit resume to Dean of Student Services and sign up
for interview

Home Builder's Association
Purpose:
Scholarship program for a student attending a four-year public college or university in North Carolina.
The Senior must have shown leadership in extra curricular activities. The student must also demonstrate
financial need. The selections is based on the following percentages:

20% GPA/SAT/Class Rank

State Employees Credit Union Scholarship
Purpose:
Provides a $10, 000 scholarship to a Senior for Study at a College or University in North Carolina

Teaching Fellows Scholarship
Purpose:
Full four-year scholarship for individuals who will teach in the State of North Carolina.

TEAF Scholarship
Purpose:
Scholarship Assistance for all around great student

Toyota Scholarship
Purpose:
High schools nationwide are asked to nominate one student for the Toyota Community Scholars program. The
school's nominee should have a consistent record of academic excellence, be active in school programs, and
be recognized as a leader by his/her peers and instructors. In addition, the nominee must have initiated or
be actively involved in a service program that addresses a school or community need. Only one nominee will
be accepted from a school. All phases of selection will be handled by the Scholarship and Recognition Programs
unit at Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton, New Jersey.

Other Scholarships
Students interested in being considered for one of two full schoalrships to
attend the National Youth Science Camp this summer should submit applications
by February 17th. More information and applications available in the Guidance
Dept.
Information on Wingate University's Irwin Belk Schoalrship is available
in the Guidance Department. General expectatons are SAT 1300, GPA 3.8 and
class rank in top 10%.
A $500.00 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student pursuing a
career in accounting from the NC Society of Accounts Scholarship Foundation.

Information about the Wake Cty Extension & Community Assoc. Maude P.
McInnes $500.00 scholarship is available in the Guidance Dept. Special
consideration to seniors enrolled/previously enrolled in a Family Consumer
Science Program, Future Homemakers of America, Family Consumer Science
Related Occupation Association, 4-H member or the son/daughter of an Extension
& Community Assoc. member.
