Basic information: Students must be at least 14 years, 6 months old to take a Driver Education class. Students are required to complete 30 hours in the driver education classroom and 6 hours behind the wheel instruction. Driver education classes are scheduled throughout the school year, and during the summer. Behind the wheel driving is conducted after school between 3pm and 9pm, and from 6am until 9pm on Saturdays, during the summer and any time students are out of school. Students are driven by age, oldest called first, after completing the classroom phase of driver education.
Students are also required by the NCDMV and dropout prevention services to pass at least 3 of 4 classes at SRHS to obtain or maintain a learner´s permit or a driver license. You may take driver education without meeting the 3 of 4 passing requirement, however, you will not satisfy the driver eligibility rules until you pass 3 of 4 classes. Driver eligibility certificates are validated by Mrs. Ramona Scott, SRHS registrar.
Spring Classroom Registration: Any student that desires to take a class during April or May needs to register immediately! Students that are not 14 and 1/2 can register early for a spring semester driver education class in which they will turn 14 and 1/2 on or before the day the class starts.

Eye Examination Schedule: Mr. Graham Broadwell, DMV representative, is scheduled to visit Southeast driver education classes (room 2204) to check the eyes of the students. If you were in a previous class and had a medical form issued to you or an 804 form to take to your eye doctor, you are encouraged to come back to class on one of these dates to update your paperwork. Please inform Coach Harden when you plan to come back to get your eyes rechecked. Students cannot drive until all vision examination paperwork is complete and signed by Mr. Broadwell.
- Wednesday, April 9, 3:45
- Wednesday, May 7, 3:45
Behind the Wheel Training: We are currently driving students that took the classroom phase during the March 2008 classroom sessions. Please be patient as we attempt to drive students as quickly as possible. When you are called, please remember to write down the driving schedule, place to meet and be picked up, and the instructor´s name and number. The behind the wheel instructor is responsible for calling and scheduling students to drive.
If you finished the classroom phase at least 6 weeks ago and have not been called to drive, please contact Coach Harden to discuss your situation. If you did not pass the eye exam or get your eyes checked during class, you cannot do the BTW training and will not be called to drive until that is done. Check above to see the eye examination schedule to see when Mr. Broadwell will be scheduled to be on campus.
Behind the Wheel Instructors: Please be aware that these are the drivers that most likely will be calling you to drive. Each is responsible for creating his own driving schedule, so please work with them when called for BTW instruction. If you are driving during the summer or break, you may be called by other Jordan Driving School personnel.
