All students here at SRHS participate in a vital program designed to increase their prowess in the fields of reading, writing, listening, viewing, and speaking; develop analytical and higher-order thinking skills; hone their research skills (especially with the use of technology); and engage and appreciate great works of literature from around the globe.
Students routinely enter local, state, and national contests in the fields of creative and expository writing. Many students over the years have been published in student poetry anthologies; we have had a winner in the Raleigh Fine Arts short story writing contest. The English department annually publishes an outstanding literary magazine, Illumination, and a yearbook, Catalyst.
