Introduction

The Information Technology CFLC is one of the Career-Focused Learning Communities at Southeast Raleigh High School. The IT CFLC brings together students have an interest in information technology.

The IT CFLC does not encompass all the technology-based courses at SRHS. Rather the CFLC's courses have a focus on preparing students with IT skills and certifications that will lead to jobs or professional.

Certification

The IT CFLC courses offered at SRHS are designed to prepare students with the skills and knowledge to pass industry-recognized certification exams. These certifications can add significantly to employability and earnings for both college-bound and career bound students. Many college-bound students find that one or more certifications will likely land them better paying and more interesting part time and summer work while they earn a degree. In addition, students in the IT CFLC will have mentors to help them achieve academic excellence and opportunities for internships.

IT CFLC students will also learn soft skills necessary to join and to function successfully in the professional world. They will practice such skills as interviewing, communicating, and presenting while focusing on quality and customer service.

Joining

To be eligible for the IT CFLC, you must take a level I course and/or complete a level I certification. In spring of 10th grade, formally submit a declaration of intent saying that IT will be a focus. If you're in 11th grade, you may still declare. Then, talk with your counselor, your AC, and an IT mentor and plan a course of study with them. Earn certifications to support your career goals, intern in your senior year, and graduate with two or more certifications.
