About
Illness
Any student who becomes ill with any of the following symptoms should be sent to the Attendance Office, where parents/guardians will be contacted and the student checked out of school:
- a temperature of 100.6+ degrees
- nausea
- vomiting/diarrhea
- an undiagnosed rash
- red, watery eyes with yellow drainage
- severe headache
- obvious orthopedic or head injury.
Students may return to school when fever-free for 24 hours or when they have a doctor's note stating they are no longer contagious.
Students with other symptoms stay in school unless their parents give permission to go home. The student and/or teacher handle minor first-aid problems.
Any student who constantly wants to leave class for medical reasons should be referred to the nurse, room 107Q.
To self-refer, students must have teacher or counselor written permission to come to the nurse's office where self-referral forms are available on the door. To speak with a nurse on unscheduled days, call 919/250-1030.
Students are encouraged to take prescription medicines at home. If it is necessary to take prescription medicines at school:
- An adult must bring the medication to the attendance office.
- The pharmacy bottle must include student's name, directions from the doctor and the name of the medicine printed on the label.
- The parent and the physician must sign medication Form 1702.
- The form must be on file in the attendance office and be updated if there are changes in the prescription.
- School staff will give no medication without a doctor's order.
- Students must have written parental permission to take over-the-counter or prescription medications or Form 1702 must be on file.
