North Carolina law requires that a student's driving permit or license be revoked if a student is unable to maintain adequate progress or drops out of school. Students must pass 70% of all courses in progress.
SRHS evaluates at the end of first and second terms in December and June. A student who fails one core course and an elective course during any one term will have his/her name submitted to the NC Division of Motor Vehicles as not making adequate progress, and the student's permit or license will be revoked by DMV.
Any F or FF impacts a student's privilege to obtain or maintain a NC driver license. A letter will be sent to parents notifying them that their student will be reported to DMV to have his/her license/permit revoked or that he/she is no longer eligible to receive a Driver Eligibility Certificate.
Under certain circumstances, the student may qualify as a hardship case. If a hardship exists, the parent will be given the opportunity to complete paperwork to be submitted to the WCPSS Dropout Prevention Coordinator at Central Office requesting a waiver. Hardship cases are rare and are reserved for extreme situations. The certificates are processed through the Guidance Office.
Students must receive a certification of completion from the driver education instructor before they can receive a permit.
