Board Policy

The Code of Student Conduct (Policies 6400-6450) of the Wake County Public Schools Board of Education applies to ALL WCPSS students.

School Expectations

  1. Take control of your actions. Be a positive leader and role model for others. Be accountable for your actions.
  2. Follow, respect and support Wake County Public School System's policies including the Code of Student Conduct.
  3. Hold yourself and peers tot he standards of the school and workplace (hats off indoors, no profanity, appropriate dress, no public displays of affections, etc.).
  4. Come to school prepared to work and learn the skills you need to become a productive citizen.
  5. Model your behavior around The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey -- principles that are part of the foundation of our Leadership Model.

Disciplinary actions will follow four steps and will be logged into the Student Assistant Module (SAM) unless otherwise indicated by school or board policy.

STEP 1

In-class alternatives may include:

  • Conference with the student
  • Entering incident into SAM
  • Contacting parent via e-mail, phone, or direct conference

STEP 2

Buddy Alternatives -- teachers may team by department or buddy with colleagues on their hall. The consequence will be determined by the severity of the violation.

  • Teacher may send student with an assignment to a buddy teacher during class
  • Detention may be assigned and conducted by individual teachers
  • Continuing inappropriate behavior may result in CARE or OSS

STEP 3

Student will be sent to buddy teacher again, to await administration. Administration will be called and briefed of the circumstances. Student will be immediately picked up from the buddy teacher's room and taken to CARE or to the administrator's office for conferencing. Teacher will document the offense in SAM. The student will conference with an administrator and will be given the choice of four possible consequences for their behavior.
Consequences are as follows:

  1. One day in CARE
  2. Two days in CARE
  3. Lunch detention
  4. After school detention with an administrator

Each time a student chooses one of the above consequences, that consequence is removed from the list. This allows the student a total of 6 attempts to correct their behavior before being assigned Out Of School suspension.

STEP 4

Out of School Suspension (OSS)
Serious infractions or repeated misbehaviors are reported to an administrator who may determine, based on the Student Code of Conduct or the Progressive Discipline Plan that OSS is warranted.
